DESCRIPTION:  THE WAI'ANAE APPROACH TO THE HIGHEST SUMMIT ON OAHU.

THIS RAPID ASCENT TO MOUNT KA'ALA PASSES THROUGH THE KA'ALA NATURAL AREA RESERVE (NAR), LOCATED JUST BEFORE THE SUMMIT, WHICH IS A BOG-LIKE ENVIRONMENT FOR MANY NATIVE HAWAIIAN PLANTS.

TWO KA'ALA USGS MARKERS CAN BE FOUND NEAR THE FENCE LINE OF THE INSTALLATION FACILITY. THE MEASURED ELEVATION AT THESE MARKERS IS 4070 FT.

MOUNT KA'ALA CAN ALSO BE REACHED FROM THE NORTH VIA THE DUPONT TRAIL.
