DESCRIPTION: LUA'ALAEA IS A SECLUDED WATERFALL TRAIL THAT BEGINS AND PARALLELS THE MANOA FALLS TRAIL. ALTHOUGH, NOT AS POPULAR AS THE NEIGHBORING MANOA FALLS TRAIL, THE TRAIL LEADING UP TO LUA'ALAEA FALLS IS DISTINGUISHABLE AND NOT VERY DIFFICULT.

TO GET TO LUA'ALAEA FROM THE MANOA FALLS TRAIL YOU MUST CROSS THE WAIHI STREAM LOCATED DIRECTLY TO THE RIGHT OF A LEPTOSPIROSIS WARNING SIGN NEAR THE ENTRANCE. A TRAIL BEGINS TO FORM SHORTLY AFTERWARD; FOLLOW LUA'ALAEA STREAM UPWARD TO THE WATERFALL.

A SHORTCUT TO COMPLETELY BYPASS THE MANOA FALLS APPROACH EXISTS BY FOLLOWING HAUKULU ROAD AS IT TURNS INTO LUA'ALAEA TRAIL.
