DESCRIPTION:  LOCATED IN EAST OAHU DIRECTLY BETWEEN THE HAWAII LOA AND KULIOUOU RIDGES, KULEPEAMOA OFFERS UP A SLIGHTLY MORE CHALLENGING EXPERIENCE THAN ITS NEIGHBORS.

THIS COUNTERCLOCKWISE LOOP TRAIL BEGINS IN PIA VALLEY AND QUICKLY ASCENDS THE WESTERN FACE OF KULEPEAMOA. FROM HERE THIS CLASSIC TYPE RIDGE TRAIL IS A STRAIGHT SHOT TO THE KOOLAU SUMMIT WITH A PANORAMIC VIEW OF KOKO HEAD CRATER TO THE EAST AND DIAMOND HEAD CRATER TO THE WEST. NEAR THE SUMMIT THERE IS A ROPED SECTION WORTH NOTING, HOWEVER, IS NOT BE ANY MEANS A CRITICAL SITUATION. ONCE AT THE SUMMIT A LOOP IS FORMED FROM YOUR RETURN PATH BY TRAVERSING WESTWARD ALONG THE KST TOWARD HAWAII LOA, DESCENDING HAWAII LOA RIDGE, AND LOCATING AN UNMARKED GUAVA TUNNEL THAT DESCENDS THE EASTERN FACE OF HAWAII LOA RIDGE BACK DOWN TO THE VALLEY FLOOR.

THE FORMAT OF THE KULEPEAMOA RIDGE TRAIL IS NEARLY IDENTICAL TO THE NEARBY WAILUPE LOOP TRAIL.
