DESCRIPTION:  TUCKED AWAY NEAR THE BASE OF THE KOOLAU IS ONE OF OAHU'S HIDDEN CRATERS. THIS TRAIL TRAVELS ALONG THE EAST FACING RIM OF KA'AU CRATER AND ASCENDS TO THE TOP OF THE KOOLAU TO A PEAK NAMED PALIKEA.

KA'AU CRATER CAN ALSO BE REACHED FROM THE END OF THE PALOLO VALLEY TRAIL BY ASCENDING THE THREE WATERFALLS THAT ARE A RESULT OF COLLECTED WATER FROM WITHIN THE BOWL SHAPED CRATER. WHILE IT IS POSSIBLE TO CIRCLE THE ENTIRE CRATER RIM IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED THAT YOU DESCEND DOWN TO THE CRATER FLOOR DUE TO THE SWAMP-LIKE CONDITION THE WATER CREATES.
